An early tweet revealed that no new sets are planned until late 2014. Tonight he revealed that the Classics are slowing down to the point where they will probably die. This is due to factors such as lack of sells not paying of development costs and being unable to hit the minimum quantity of sale.
So suddenly the talk of Silurians, Wirrn, Zarbi and console rooms that Al has mentioned in the past could be just that. Talk.
I hope and pray that things pick up. Mainly because this line is my favourite of the few I collect. Fingers crossed other stores will commission other sets. The announcement of a possible Fur Coat Troughton and an 11th Doctor from 'The Snowmen' came out of nowhere. Hopefully we'll have more like that. Or if we end up with only a few releases a year then one hopes that they are the monsters we've all been waiting for.
But somehow I fear that there may be no light at the end for my era of Doctor Who.
I only started getting the classic series figures in 2010 or 2011 and I fell in love with them. They are so brilliant and there are some many figures yet to be released. It would be a shame if they went, as they are very popular with classic series and new series fans alike. But I am surprised that the classic line is doing so badly, after all you think it would be the new series figures hence the reason why it was shrunk to three and three quarters. Maybe sales are doing so badly is that we are not getting enough enemies with the sets that have not been released. I mean it's nice to have classic series Daleks and Cybermen but I think there are far to many of them being released (especially the Daleks). Also there is a lack of monsters being released, as said in batmanmarch's Doctor Who Classics: Figures we'd Like to See - Monsters and Villains. Like batmanmarch I am also bored to buggery with Cybermen and Daleks always being released. I mean look at the new Doctor and Dalek two pack, now they could of released a monster from the appropriate era with the appropriate Doctor. In conclusion if the classic series line does end I am sure it will be sadly missed.
ReplyDeleteIts ridiculous, how can the line be dying if all we ever talk about is what we want, if they gave us that, then you wouldn't even be writing articles like this. They need to listen to fan demands, and get clear on what sells, pay attention to polls etc.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe this! This year is meant to be the biggest year in the show's history! However in terms of merchandising, the classics have been lacking. We've not had a set since January, we are now in August still awaiting a few releases like SFX Daleks, Doctor and Dalek packs and the 'Claws' and Daemons' and Priory Set with Marcus Scarman. On top of that we get rewarded with 3.75 figures which I personally detest and makes collecting new series figures utterly pointless. Like you I am not surprised but so gutted if the classics will die out because they are the only figures I collect.
ReplyDeleteI really hope that the classics line doesn't just dwindle out of existence as i have only now just started to seriously collect them and am really hoping that they'll release a console room for the classic doctors if they actually listened to what the fans wanted instead of ignoring us maybe sales would go up even if they made it like the MOTUC line and we had to subscribe i'd do that i hope that the classics line stays as they are great really detailed figures and deserve to stay
ReplyDelete'The announcement of a possible Fur Coat Troughton and an 11th Doctor from 'The Snowmen' came out of nowhere.' Is there a 5 inch eleventh Doctor in series 7 outfit coming out?
ReplyDeleteif the classics stop then i stop collecting doctor who figures
ReplyDeleteHi. First can I say that I love your Figure Adventures and Reviews- I really do laugh at some of them! I really do hope the Classic line will not halt just yet, as it feels like we're only just getting started. I mean, we've had very few companions and for CO to suddenly declare that their line is dying and not meeting the expected sale rate, then that's their own fault because they are constantly re-releasing figures we already have! I mean, they've already discontinued the New Series 5" line and I'm certainly not buying a Tom Baker who's a tiny little twit and 2ft tall! I don't have many Classics myself and want to get more, especially with the imminent arrival of Ace. An example of constant re-releasing is the Enemies of the First Doctor set- constant Daleks and Cybermen conquering the Hartnell line!!! I really love the Classics line and it would be such a shame to see them go without giving us a Yeti, or an Andy Pandy Sarah Jane, hell, I'd buy a Cheetah Person!
